The idea

You meet at a café. You take the coffee to go. One of you drives, the other sits passenger. The road opens up in front of you — Al Qudra at dusk, the Hatta loop, the climb to Jebel Jais — and somewhere between the first roundabout and the last, you have the kind of conversation you can't have anywhere else.

and match.
Every member is verified by Emirates ID. We pair you with someone whose preferences line up with yours — and we honor the matching choices you set when you signed up.

A short
intro call.
Before any drive, you and your match jump on a ten-minute video call. You get a sense of each other's voice, agree on the route, and either of you can decline — quietly, no questions asked.

Coffee,
then off.
Meet at one of ten partner cafés across the UAE. Grab a coffee to go. Live trip-share activates the moment the drive begins.

Detour exists because strangers can have remarkable conversations — but only when both people feel safe enough to be present. We take that seriously.

Emirates ID verification.
Every member is identity-verified before they're matched with anyone. No anonymous accounts. No exceptions.

The intro call.
Before any drive, both members meet on a ten-minute video call. Either can decline afterward without explanation.

Live trip tracking.
Every drive is GPS-tracked in real time, shared with the Detour team and with a contact of your choice.

Mutual rating.
Both members rate each other after every drive. Issues are reviewed by hand. Repeat concerns mean removal from the community.

Driver verification.
Drivers submit a valid UAE licence and vehicle registration. Vehicles must be in good condition and insured.

A line you can call.
A dedicated number you can reach the Detour team on during any active drive — twenty-four hours, every day.

Worth asking.

Who is Detour for?
People who'd rather have one real conversation than ten small ones. Drivers who miss the road. Passengers who think best when someone else is steering. Members are verified, matched by preference, and meet first on a short intro call before any drive is confirmed.
Do I have to own a car?
No. You can join as a driver, a passenger, or either — depending on the match. Many members will only ever ride.
What does a Detour usually cost?
Nothing during the pilot. We're testing whether this is something people genuinely want before we ever think about pricing.
How long is a typical drive?
Between one and four hours, depending on the route and what you both agree to on the intro call. Most drives are two to three.
Can I say no after the intro call?
Always. Either member can decline a match after the call, with no explanation needed. We'd rather have a quiet 'no' than a forced 'yes'.
When does it start?
We're onboarding founding members now. The first concierge-matched drives begin in the coming weeks. Early signups get priority.
